Ongoing Birth Classes

At some point in your pregnancy, you suddenly realize- really realize- that you will give birth, and the birth-to-come is very much in focus. You dream of it, you fear it, you anticipate it. Some women can’t wait to experience it, while others dread this experience.

No matter what your attitude towards it is, one thing is sure: a lot of studies show, that the one most important factor to affect the outcome of a birth experience, both subjectively and regarding measurable interventions, is preparation and knowledge. The birth process requires of the woman to let go of control (no matter if you are having a natural birth of caesarean section) – but to do so, it is important to know what to expect, and to understand the process.

My birth preparation classes are in English and will include:

  • information about the physiology and stages of birth

  • onset of labor and the time at home before going to hospital

  • when to go to hospital

  • pain relief

  • fathers role

  • monitoring and safety during birth

  • complications, interventions and treatments

  • breathing and relaxation during birth

  • labor and delivery positions

  • massage for late pregnancy and birth

  • breastfeeding

  • the meaning of Cangaroo Mothering and how to wrap a baby sling.

This class is held in Prismen on Amager, is the first of three independent, but supplementary parts of birth preparation. We meet 2 times/week, and this first part is 4 times. Part 2 (and 3 if you wish) (see below) is scheduled as a natural continuation, but must bee booked separately.

Massage Courses for Pregnancy and Birth

Pregnancy and birth happens in the body, not in the head. And so, the best preparations are the ones that come from the body. My massage courses are a supplement (but independent) to the more traditional birth preparation. You will learn to use touch and pressure for relief in pregnancy, birth, for your baby and your partner!

During the course, you will get an understanding of how your body changes during pregnancy, and how your muscles must adapt to be growing baby bump. You will learn exercises for relief and stretching of the muscles, positions to rest in, and massaging techniques for the sore muscles. You will also learn about relaxation during birth, how you might help yourself and have help from others. Finally you will learn some soothing techniques for the newborn baby – for whom touch is a whole new sensation!

You can take this class in two different ways:

  • We meet 3 times, 2 hours every time, and we will primarily focus on exercises.

  • An intensive one-day program with the same curriculum as the slower paced course.

Please bring dads, co-mothers, nannies and grannies – or anybody, who will lend a helping hand, and want to learn!
